From August 21st to the 24th, the Gold Coast will host the 2014 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships. The event, held every four years over four days of long course competition, will see more than 300 of the world’s best swimmers from the USA, Japan, Canada, Brazil, New Zealand and Australia compete for the coveted Pan Pacific Gold.
The Pan Pacific Swimming Championships are one of the world’s most prestigious swimming meets in the world and has seen the likes of Ian Thorpe, Susie O’Neill, Michael Phelps and Kosuke Kitajima compete.
The Gold Coast Aquatic Centre will have recently opened their new complex in Southport along the Broadwater. The $41 million upgrade will include a new 10-lane 50 metre competition pool, new learn-to-swim pool, elevated spectator concourse/viewing terrace, new change room, gym and toilet facilities, community meeting rooms, event facilities, permanent seating for approximately 1000 people, and refurbishment of the existing eight-lane 50 metre pool and dive pool.
The Pan Pacs will be a warm up for the Aquatic Centre before becoming the swimming and diving facility for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
